I've been visiting the Isle of Skye, Kyle of Lochalsh and the surrounding area since I was a young boy. The area is a special place for me as, whilst it is familiar and comforting, it is also spectacularly beautiful and creatively inspiring.

I have visited at different times of the year, but for me, visiting in Autumn is a must. The low, golden light of an early autumn evening, coupled with the russet, ochre tones of the landscape make for really interesting landscape painting.

Last year, I was lucky enough to take a trip with a close friend painting for a week in late October. Despite dodging the occasional rain shower, and needing to wrap up warm (fingerless gloves were a must), I managed to produce the 8 small scale plein air oil paintings you see here. So pleased have I been with the results, a trip to Skye for this October is already planned!
