About George

By day, I am a Performance and Intelligence Manager in the NHS running a small team that analyses health and social data to support service improvement and planning. My passion however, is for painting and art.

Born and bought up in the West Midlands, during my childhood I would often spend sunny afternoons watercolour painting with my grandfather in the Warwickshire countryside. I moved to Scotland to study at the University of Dundee where I found new inspiration in the light of the Scottish east coast and the landscape of the Angus Glens. These were the focus of my first solo exhibition in 2016.

Since settling in Dumfries in 2015, I continue to travel widely across Scotland exploring the landscape of the highlands, islands and lowlands. I am always keen to get out into the landscape, to experience the weather, the colours and the changing light whether that be close to home or far out into the wilderness. More recently, my work has started to explore how landscapes can give a sense of 'a moment in time' as well as place.

I work predominately in oils both in my home studio and also 'en plein air', but I often turn to watercolour to capture fleeting moments in my sketchbook.

I hope that you enjoy viewing my work as much as I did painting them!
